ARTIST BIO

Known to some as “Orange Joe,” Joseph Fabrizio is a Massachusetts based painter, illustrator, calligrapher, and lifelong tattoo enthusiast.  His work is a combination of his love for nature, fantasy, pop culture, tattoos, and lettering. His inspirations include Vincent Vangough, B.J. Betts, Seb Lester and Landon Richmond. His family has always supported his artistic ability and encouraged him to learn as much as he could. He believes that expression through a visual medium is a much more direct way to convey one’s emotions. Taking from a Humanist perspective, he believes that art and scientific advancement are the only logical reasons for existence.
In 2004 he was accepted into the Saturday Studios summer program at Massachusetts College of Art for Animation. Not knowing where his art would bring him he returned in 2005 for their Comic Book Art program. During the school year he received a scholarship to Project Link, a college level architecture program at Harvard University GSD for the summer and fall of 2009 and again in 2010. He also attended private art classes by Maryellen Conway from 2006-2011.
After graduating high school in 2011, he went on to get his associates degree in Fine Art from BHCC in 2016. But after graduating he began to lose the hope he had in becoming a professional artist. By the time the pandemic began in 2020 he was ready to give up but with all of the time out of work he started to study calligraphy online. The smartest decision he ever made. Calligraphy completely changed his process and kicked open the door to everything he was missing creatively. Since 2020, he has spent any free time he had researching new letter forms, Practicing his own lettering and doing his best to improve his skills.
